Hello and welcome to the Cnoc Outdoors blog. I'm Gilad Nachmani, the founder of Cnoc Outdoors and now also the writer of this great new blog. I'm sure this is not the first "company blog" you have come across and I guess you think you know this works, but let me tell you a few things about Cnoc and me that might lead you to having a slightly different opinion about this blog.
A one man show
Cnoc Outdoors started as one man's (mine) attempt to offer some alternatives and solutions that aren't served well in the outdoors market. All this only began in early 2016 and became a solid business in October 2016, so you can see that this is a very, very young company. The reason I wanted to start making gear is because I have been selling it for a very long time, and I feel that some things just don't make sense or completely fail in the realm of outdoors gear. Cnoc is not about making the best product category (backpacks/sleeping bags/etc) or to be a huge making-it-all brand, but a company that makes specific solutions for outdoors activity participants, mainly for lightweight backpackers and thru-hikers.
My goal is not to make the lightest, or most technical, or cheapest gear, but to make kit that strikes the balance between technically functional (aka lightweight), affordable and comfortable. You have probably heard that when it comes to gear, you can choose two of three: light, cheap and/or durable. I decided to chip a bit off the light and cheap to make not super cheap, not super ultralight but durable and functional gear, like the Vertex poles: you can get lighter (but double the price), cheaper (but bigger/heavier) or more durable (but double the weight) elsewhere, but not the combo I have designed.
Last, and probably most important to me, I want to offer a customer experience that centers around integrity: in what you are getting, the quality of products and the customer service. It is not just about being available, it is about being honest and clear.
But who is the "man"
I guess it is time to introduce myself - I'm Gilad Nachmani, and I have worked in the outdoors industry since 2006. I'm a husband and a father to two young children; I was born and raised in Israel, moved to the UK at the age of 28 and now live with my family in Oregon, USA. These are the basic details of who I am, but the less "dry" information comes from my experiences and views, many of which are shared in the blog I have been writing for the last couple of years: Outdoors Father.
I started taking my outdoors career more seriously when I moved to the UK, and then again when my daughter was born. Being a father nudged me into looking at the outdoors in a more critical way: as a father who struggles for time, money, attention and interest. I started writing my blog as a way to explore my part in the outdoors as a participant, a consumer and a professional. That blog ended up leading me to here, to Cnoc Outdoors and making my own gear in the hope that you can enjoy it with me.
If you want to learn more about me head over to Outdoors Father and do some more reading.
So, not really your regular brand blog....
As you may have noticed by now, my writing is not exactly standard. I'm a bit cynical and conversational, so that is how things will be around here (but it will be correct English, my wife is my editor!). Beyond that, I like to write informative posts so even an update about our company will have practical information. Posts will be about:
- News and updates about Cnoc and the products (when relevant)
- Any competitions, giveaways or new product introductions
- Informative posts to help you get the most out of the products I design
- Practical outdoors guide style posts, focusing on useful skills like navigation, camping site selection, water treatment etc
- Trip reports from customers and testers (of the Cnoc products)
- Some behind the scenes of what it takes to design and make some of the products here
If any of this sounds interesting, you are in the right place.
Next, you'll start getting some great posts heading your way - but it is not one-sided. I'd like to see you taking part too: leaving comments, getting in touch, telling me what you like or dislike about the blog and any of the Cnoc products. This blog is yours, too: use it!
P.S: if you would like to share pictures, stories, posts or anything else in this blog, or have an idea of what you would like to read, contact me and we can work together.
